First Touch to Play

Description

In this session we are focusing on our players first touch and receiving skills. The player will have five options when receiving the ball. There are two forward gates, two sideways gates and a pole/cone to open out before turning back. The first set should allow the player to make their own decision on where they want to take their touch. Once they have got used to the drill, the coach should number each gate, then when the coach plays into the player, say a number so that the player has to react and take the ball into that area. This will improve both their receiving skills and concentration. Each set should last between 30-60 seconds.
