Opening out on the back foot

Description

In this session we are focusing on our players movement to receive on the back foot to open out and play forward passes. The drill begins with the coach passing to the player for a 1 - 2. The player then moves through the poles/cones and towards the central pole. The player should touch the central pole and then move back to create space to receive the ball. When receiving the ball, the player should control on the back foot to broaden their options, and then pass through one of the gates. Once the player has passed the ball, they then move back towards the deeper pole, where they will receive another pass, and take it across the body again to pass and continue the drill. It’s important to reiterate to the player the importance of opening the body out when receiving and controlling with the back foot. The drill can be completed from both sides, working on both feet. Each set should consist of 4 - 8 reps and should be completed at least twice each side.
