Opening out to Play Forward
Description
In this session we are focusing on our players ability to open out on the back foot and play forward. We have three parts to the session, all with the same outcome, except we are working off different angles. The player starts at the central pole/cone, before moving away from the pole to create space to receive the ball from the coach, to either take the ball back across the body, or open out away from where they received, to then play forwards. When receiving from deep, the player has the option to move infront of the pole, and take the ball away with the outside of the foot, which shields the ball with the players body, enabling them to pass. The coach should look to pass the ball to the players back foot, so the player has more chance of opening out in one motion. The players body shape is vital, they should make sure they can see where the ball is and where they want to take the ball. Each set should consist of 4 - 8 reps and should be completed at least three times.
