First Time Setting & Passing
Description
In this session we are focusing on our players ability to play first time, and movement on/off the ball. The drill starts with the coach passing to the player on the opposite outside pole/cone. The player then sets to the player in the middle who moves around the pole to meet the ball head on, to then set the ball across to the player on the outside, who will move across the pole to receive back. Once the player on the outside has received the ball from the setter, they then play into the coach, who plays into the setter to repeat the sequence. The drill should be completed at a high intensity, with players encouraged to play first time. The timing of movement is important, the setter should move across the pole as the player on the outside makes contact with the ball. Each set should last between 30-60 seconds depending on the players age, before the two players switch over. Both players should complete two sets in the middle before changing the direction to work on the opposite foot.
