Reacting to burst into space and change direction quickly


Description

In this session we are focusing on our players ability to react and burst into space, and change direction quickly. The drill begins with the player moving through the agility ladder. As the player moves out of the ladder, they sprint up to the pole/cone ahead of them. When the player approaches the pole, the coach will then shout a colour or number of a pole/cone for the player to sprint to. After the player reaches the pole, they look to back pedal around the middle pole behind them, before then sprinting through the gate ahead. It’s important that the player slows down and retains a lower body position as they approach a pole, so they can change direction quickly. Each set should consist of 3 - 5 reps and should be completed at least three times.
