Receiving and playing out quickly to beat the press

Description

In this session we are focusing on our players ability to receive ball and play out quickly to beat the press. The drill begins with the player moving out to their left to receive the ball and set back to the coach. The player then moves out to their right to receive the ball again to set back first time. Once the player has played the ball back, they look to move to the pole/cone behind to receive the ball and open out to play forward/wide. As the player receives the ball, the coach (or another player) looks to put pressure on the player to make it realistic to a game scenario with an opposition attacker closing down. The player should look to open out using the back foot to take the ball away into space. Each set should consist of 4 - 8 reps and should be completed at least three times each side.
