Closing Down Space & Transition

Description

In this session we are focusing on our players movement to close down and transition to receive and play forward. The drill begins with the coaches instruction. The coach should number the poles from 1-6, 1-3 being the poles/cones infront, and 4-6 the poles behind the player. The coach will shout two numbers, for example, 2 and 6. The player will then move to the forward pole first, reenacting closing down the opposition, before then backpedaling towards the pole behind, where they will then receive the ball, take it across the body and play forward through the gate. The player then returns to the middle and awaits the coaches instruction for their next movement. The player should create space to receive the ball and should remain an arms length away from the pole when closing down. The drill should be completed for 30-60 seconds, and at least three times.
