Play out and step up to react and close down

Description

In this session we are focusing on playing out and stepping up to react and close down. The drill begins with the player pushing off the cone/pole to receive the ball off the coach, open out and play forward. Once the player has passed the ball, they look to accelerate quickly to the central cone. As the player reaches the cone, the coach will shout a number or colour of cone for the player to then react to sprint towards. When the player reaches the cone, they look to slow down to transition into a jockey and move back to the central cone. Finally, when the player moves back to the central cone, they then look to accelerate once more to sprint out. The player looks to stay light on their feet and retain a low body position when jockeying. Each set should consist of 2 - 5 reps and should be completed at least three times.
