Sharp footwork to intercept the ball and drop to head clear
Description
In this session we are focusing on sharp footwork to intercept the ball and drop to head clear. The drill begins with the player moving across a piece of equipment to work on agility and footwork (ladder, hurdles, cones). As the player moves out of the equipment, the coach throws the ball into the players feet in the air or on the floor for them to intercept back into the coach and move back through. When the coach says ‘drop’ the player reacts to shuffle backwards to head the ball clear. The player should move the feet quickly, staying light on their feet and ensure when moving backwards they see the ball at all times. Each set should consist of 4 - 6 reps and should be completed at least three times.
