Fast feet to step, shuffle and backpedal to attack the ball

Description

In this session we are focusing on our players fast feet to step, shuffle and backpedal to then attack the ball in the air. The drill begins with the player moving through the agility ladder showing quick feet by keeping the heels off the ground and pumping the arms. The player then reacts to the coaches instruction to step out to the cone/pole. As the player approaches the cone, they look to slow down to transition and shuffle across to the other side. Once the player moves to the opposite side, they look to transition again, this time into a backpedal to move around the cone behind them and then out to attack the ball thrown the air. When the players heads the ball, they should ensure they maintain contact through the ball and head the ball upwards to prevent an attacker bringing the ball down easily. Each set should consist of 3 - 5 reps and should be completed three times.
