Deflecting away from goal and defending the cross

Description

In this session we are focusing on deflecting the attacker away from goal and reacting to defend the cross. The drill begins with the red player passing into the blue player before closing the player down. The defender aims to deflect the attacker away from goal by cutting off the goal with their body shape and putting pressure on the ball carrier. As the players reach the cone, they look to react to move towards the goal. The coach looks to cross the ball for the attacker to attempt to score and the defender looks to position themselves to clear the ball away. Each set should consist of 3 - 5 reps and should be completed at least two times each side per player.
