Dropping to receive on the back foot to step in with the ball
Description
In this session we are focusing on dropping to receive the ball on the back foot to step out with the ball and play forward. The drill begins with the coach throwing a ball up for the player to attack and head back. After the player heads the ball, they look to accelerate to the cone/pole furthest right. The coach then plays the ball into the player, who sets back, before repeating in the middle and on the outside again. The player then drops to receive the ball on the back foot, enabling them to open out and pass to the board which replicates a midfield player. The player then looks to receive the ball back to step out with the ball and then play forward. If you don’t have a rebound board or another player, the player can receive and drive into space instead. Each set should consist of 4 - 8 reps and should be completed at least three times.
