Recover towards goal to intercept
Description
In this session we are focusing on our players to recover quickly towards goal to intercept the ball. The drill begins with the coach passing/rolling the ball into the player to play back first time. This is build up sharpness and replicate the team being in possession of the ball. The coach then instructs the player which cone to move to, by either a colour or number. The player then moves towards the cone/pole, before backpedaling around the deeper pole and then moving across the goal to deny a goal/pass through. The player should always keep their eyes on the ball when travelling backwards, taking a quick glance over the shoulder to check the space and their surroundings, whilst keeping a body shape on their side which enables them to change direction. Each set should consist of 4 - 8 reps and should be completed at least three times.
