Defensive circuit: Step/drop to defend varying situations

Description

In this session we are focusing on a defensive circuit: step/drop to defend varying situations. The drill begins with the coach telling the player to either step or drop. The coach can change the movement at any time. The coach can also throw the ball up in the air for the player to attack and head clear or throw on the floor for the player to intercept/pass back. If the coach drives in with the ball then the player looks to close down and force one way. When the coach shouts ‘Cross’ the player reacts to defend a ball from out wide. The players body shape is important and they should always be light on their feet and retain a low body position. Each set should last between 60 - 90 seconds and should be completed at least three times per player.
