Full Back Transition to Play
Description
In this session we are focusing our players movement to transition and play through. This drill is suited for a full back, but can be completed by all players. The drill starts with the player playing a 1-2 with the rebound board. The player then passes into the coach, before moving towards the pole, as if they were closing a player down. The player then begins the transition by backpedaling towards the pole on their left shoulder, with the coach passing to the player once they reach the pole. Once the player controls the ball, the coach looks to move to one of the gates, giving the player an option to play to. The pass is realistic for the player to reenact passing the ball to a player out wide, or a midfielder moving in between the lines. The player and coach move back to their start point before repeating. The drill can adapted for a right footed player by simply placing the board at the opposite side to start, and if you don’t have a board, then the player can play directly into the coach. The drill should be completed at least three times, with 4-6 reps in each set.
