Clearing Away from Goal
Description
In this session we are focusing on our players defensive headers, and recovery towards goal. The drill starts with the player manoeuvring through the poles/cone to move to the outside pole. Once reaching the pole, the coach throws a ball up for the player to head clear. The player then instantly moves back towards the goal, to block a shot/pass from the coach. The player then repeats the sequence on the opposite side. The player should look to head the ball away from goal, with height on the ball to prevent an attacker the option to finish. When moving towards goal, the player should have eyes on the coach/ball to anticipate where the shot/pass may travel to. Each set should consist of four reps, and should be completed at least three times.
